"I Wish I Looked Like Cindy Crawford"

"I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford," said Cindy Crawford.

Although Cindy Crawford is gorgeous, I am happy to look and be me. I like this quote because it tells people that not even supermodels looks like supermodels in real life. During my photo shoot/ hang out with Victoria, we discussed how obsessive the media is with women's looks and the impossible standards it sets for women. I brought up how bothered I was about the Carl's Jr. poster I had seen. It focused on a woman's mouth and it had the American flag print as her lipstick.  Although, this isn't as bad as other advertisements I have seen regarding the objectification of woman, it had a strong impact on me. When I first saw the ad, I just couldn't stop talking about how the media portrays women in such a sexual manner. These two Ted Talks came to mind after I saw the ad. Each are unique in its own way and definitely are worth watching.

The Dangers of How Woman Are Seen In the Media

"The image isn't real. It's artificial. It's constructed. It's impossible. But Real women and girls are measure ourselves against it every single day. Of course, it effects female self-esteem and it effects how men feel about the very real women in their life. Women's bodies dismembered in ads are constantly being disfigured in ad after ad for all kinds of products."

Ironically enough, I got an ad before this video of a girl walking around in a bikini….

Looks Aren't Everything. Believe me, I'm a model.

"If you ever are wondering, if I have thinner thighs and shinier hair will I be happier? You just need to meet a group of models because they have the thinnest thighs, shiniest hair and the coolest clothes and they are the most physically insecure women probably on the planet."

I do think it is unfair the way women are portrayed in the media. I believe that women should celebrate their beauty but they should also appreciate who they are as a person and what they have achieved. I love having a fashion blog because I get to appreciate myself as a person and all the flaws that comes with being me. All in all, I hope that women and girls will see themselves as perfection with flaws and not feel the need to ever give in to media's standards of what beautiful is and how you should dress or act.

Let me know your thoughts,

  3. I love your outfit photos featuring that Forever 21 dress. Those action shots are great! I agree with you that it's often unfair how women are portrayed in the media, and also wish healthier looks were featured more often. Often the editors and designers featured have less than good artistic taste themselves, both in their designs and in their choice of models. I'm glad you appreciate yourself as a person the way you are. On the beauty front, you're much prettier than Cindy Crawford is anyway.
