Adult coloring books have become a bit of a trend lately. At first, I was a little hesitant to go out spend my time coloring. It wasn't until I went to friend's house, stressed from a tough day's work. I burst into tears because of how chaotic my life had become. After a talk and some advice, she suggested that I try coloring. She told me all about how she would color books as her creative outlet after a tough day at the office. She handed me a coloring book and told me to just try it out for a while. I was still hesitant but I thought, "hey, why not?"
After doing some research, I found out why coloring was so therapeutic. Coloring is a form of mindfulness. Mindfulness is a type of mediation that helps you stay focused on what is currently happening. It has proven to be very beneficial. Adult coloring apparently has intellectual benefits as well. Saaayyyy whaaaatt?? Yeah! I didn't believe it either, but coloring uses the part of the brain that we use problem solving and organization. When we are deciding what colors will look well together, we are actually exercising this part of the brain. At the end of the day, you know what will help you keep a more positive and calm attitude. This is just one of the many ways that I de-stress. I also love to spend time editing videos or exercising, but sometimes it is nice to do a more laid back activity like coloring. It helps you stay focused in the moment which is why I think so many people find it therapeutic. At the end of it all, you can take a step by and see your colorful masterpiece.
